Ever since that last conversation with Ivar, Letha has been lurking around the dorm dome rather than properly living in it. Just in case. That isn't going to stop her from making friends, but she'll have to be more careful to avoid Ivar getting a chance to speak to her.
The opportunity just happens to present itself when she spots Ubbe in the kitchen, and slides over to not-so-subtly place herself beside him.
"I don't believe we've properly met, but I've noticed you speaking with Ivar. Are you are friend of his?"
Ubbe's only heard vague things about letha so far. But knowing his brother he wouldn't be expecting much of any woman that he'd ever been close to. Ubbe might have had his share of crazy women but any woman who could put up with Ivar most likely was a whole other kind of person.
But he doesn't recognize her as he's never met her and he glances over at her as he sets down the bottle he'd just poured a drink from.
...Ah. Well, that complicates things a little, but she can work with that.
"Then you might be able to help me. Last we spoke, he made it rather clear that he had an interest in separating my head from the rest of me. And seeing as I think it rather completes my appearance, I'd like to know if I should... be worried, about him."
She clears her throat with a sheepish look.
"I'd very much like to hear that he's full of hot air."
Ubbe raises a brow at that. Well, it sounds like Ivar. "You should always be worried about Ivar," he answers honestly. He turns to appraise her as he takes a sip of the drink he had just poured.
"But that he didn't do it immediately is a good sign. Why does he want to do so?"
Her smile falters a bit, but it's back in full by the time he looks at her. She's used to being appraised, and straightens herself up to look her best.
"I believe I'm to understand that... he does not approve of my parenting skills for a child that does not yet exist. In all honesty, I can't say how killing me solves any of that. Unless he's planning to prevent me from bearing children."
Which isn't a bad plan if that's his goal, she has to admit.
"He's probably not thinking very clearly," Ubbe says and he shrugs. "Every once in a while his anger gets the better of him. But it would seem to me that he might not want this child to not be born if he cares so much for it."
She'd seen the same sort of thing with her cousins... her brothers sometimes had to act like this for her, too. At a certain point, aggression and temper tantrums just stopped being a surprise.
"It certainly won't be born here, so I can't see what the issue is..." She lets out a quiet huff, "I don't suppose there's anything I could offer you in return for some assistance? Either... reasoning with him, or otherwise assuring my safety?"
Ivar was never particularly easy to deal with and even at times Ubbe had trouble being able to read his behavior accurately. Sometimes it was just a guessing game and a most unpredictable one at that.
"He's usually fairly logical but he loses control whenever his emotions are in play."
Ubbe shrugs at her proposal of sorts.
"I'm not sure you could but I do my best to limit the harm he does."
"I do wish I knew what made him act so irrationally with me, then."
She lets out an exasperated huff, but her good spirits don't seem to diminish in the slightest. She bounces up to kiss Ubbe's cheek, before moving to leave.
"Thank you - really. All I ask is that you try. If I do end up dying, I suppose I'll just come right back, so there isn't much harm."
Ubbe looks slightly amused as he glances over at her again and then shakes his head. "You'll never come to a satisfactory answer if you look at Ivar for rationality. He's anything but rational."
He blinks in surprise when she kisses his cheek and looks perplexed. That's not exactly a common Viking custom after all.
"That we know of anyway," Ubbe mutters, as he doesn't think matters such as life or death could really be so trivial.
